Lisa Olinger, LLMSW
As I tell my clients, I have yet to meet a perfect person. Everyone I know could benefit from having someone to talk to and getting support during difficult times. It takes a lot of strength to reach out for the support you deserve and I’m so glad you have made the choice to reach out for help. People who come to therapy are courageous, reflective, and motivated to make positive improvements in their life. My clients are some of the best people I have ever met. I absolutely love being a therapist and I feel so lucky to be a part of your journey. I can’t wait to meet you and help you live your best life now!
Adults Who Experienced Childhood Trauma (Neglect and/or Abuse)
When your emotional needs were neglected during childhood, you may find yourself struggling as an adult to maintain healthy relationships, communicate effectively with others, and get your needs met. You may feel misunderstood or disconnected from the people in your life. Sometimes you feel lost as if you aren’t living the life you wish you had and don’t know how to turn things around. You are not alone! I want to help you start living the life you want today. I offer a strengths-based perspective that helps you build on your strengths and gain additional skills to achieve your goals.
I have a passion for helping couples connect with each other through respectful and healthy communication. A special interest of mine is helping couples repair their connection following an affair. I find it extremely rewarding to help couples overcome the harmful effects of infidelity and create the type of relationship they want to have with their partner. If you and your partner are having a difficult time connecting with each other or have experienced an affair, please call or e-mail me so that I can help you repair your connection, rebuild trust, and get your relationship back on track. You and your relationship deserve it!
Sex Therapy is a form of talk therapy that is centered around improving an individual or couple’s sexual intimacy. Sex therapy does not involve any sexual activity between the client and therapist. As a sex therapist, I have specialized training in sexual health and intimacy. If you and your partner feel more like roommates than lovers, you may benefit from having a safe place to share your thoughts, feelings, concerns, wishes, and desires with one another. I help adults and couples enhance their pleasure and also provide treatment options for different sexual dysfunctions, which could include pain and arousal disorders.
As a clinical social worker, I earned a Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan and trained at the U-M Psychological Clinic. I completed the Gottman Couples Training presented by Drs. John and Julie Gottman at the Gottman Institute in Seattle. I am also involved with the U-M Sexual Health Certificate Program.
It is an honor to work as a therapist for adults and couples of all identities (e.g., ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, relationship orientation, religion, etc.). Please feel free to reach out to me anytime. I look forward to connecting with you!
